sneak peak

hair contest

i started a hair growing contest with eloise and shane....they just don't know it or admit it. it started a couple months ago. who can go the longest without a cut. Shane cut his own hair a little about a week ago....eloise keeps putting peanut butter in her hair--mine is just nice afro-like locks growing up and out rather than long.

wish me luck!

GREEN living and a little extra in our pockets...

Dear Fry Family,

Your budget bill amount was reviewed and changed to $38 effective with your next bill. Your Budget Billing Plan will be reviewed periodically and you will be notified of the results through a bill message. October is your year-end review month.

During this budget plan year you have been billed $223.12 more than your energy costs.

Love,

MidAmerican Energy.

------------------------
shane and dad blew in insulation last september , shane busted his butt reglazing and rebuilding all of our windows-- and our energy bill has dropped from $50 to $38 per month. do you know how beautiful this is? what we saved this last year equals what we spent on insulation....this. is. fabulous.

can you tell i'm antsy?

shane's been busting his buns on painting the house...just tonight he said the next house we live in will not be painted by him--it will either never need paint or we'll plan for that expense when buying...when you do things right and don't cut corners, it takes TIME.

i love the green...love, love, love it!

the shakes will be a dark tan (same color as the studio in the backyard)...and the foundation will be a charcoal. THANKFULLY, the weather is looking promising for the weekend.

when i got home from work on tuesday, he had just one tiny piece of the soffit left to paint--they are now butter-cream and it looks so much cleaner!

it's quite a change from when we moved in. it will be so much better than this!

great weekend!

cheeks and eyelashes....and did i say cheeks? oh, those cheeks!

punky-pie...loving life on a sunday in her boootiful outfit from grams.

we had a good weekend! Shane turned 35 on Friday! Eloise was home both Thurday and Friday because of either a mild case of the chickenpox or the roseolo virus...she really needs to just have a good solid month of being sick-free. it was super nice to be home with hardly an agenda--the only thing our schedule was Michaela's volleyball game in Yankton Saturday late afternoon/early evening. She really shouldn't be a freshman in highschool...where has the time gone?? We enjoyed watching her play volleyball and catching up with Mike and Audra. They were super kind and treated us to dinner at Mexico Viejo, too! Shane was the last to bed on Saturday and I don't think he made it much past 10pm....we are soooo exciting!

today Shane continued working the shop on priming the ballisters, railing and what do I know? he was priming the pieces to the porch....did i even come close with those terms? if not, pretend i did. Eloise and I cleaned, organized, rearranged, laundered, folded (yes, she thinks she can fold and it's sooo cute!), scrubbed and decluttered....it felt GREAT!

one more week of October and then you all should know my birthday month starts next Sunday.

sunday morning

my mom got me hooked on Sunday Morning on CBS--with coffee in hand, i rarely miss it. this morning was all about "size matters" and the obesity crisis in the US. if my memory serves me correctly, 1/3 of adults are overweight with another 1/3 weighing in "obese"...and what stopped me in my tracks is the prediction that Generation Y or the Millennial Generation will be the first that doesn't live longer than their parents' generation...the first, ever. and i can't remember the percentage of folks who believe that the fast food industry is to blame for the obesity epidemic....HUH? but it was a percentage--meaning, PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT TO DISPLACE THE BLAME.

i like to eat. i like to eat really good food that tastes delicious and is made with butter. i realize how much like butter-cream frosting, in fact, i had butter-cream frosting for breakfast the day of Eloise's birthday party.

remember the saying, "past the lips, straight to the hips"? or "you are what you eat"? well, call me butter, sugar.

it makes me sad that we have a generation that as a whole, may not live as long as their parents's generation because of inactivity and diet. THINGS WE CAN CONTROL.

it made me so sad that Shane made a delicious pasta carbonera, with bacon, and i nearly had seconds.

while this post might seem silly and unfocused, it's just the beginnings of me trying to sort out how in the hell we raise a girl in this society to have a healthy and realistic body image while having a positive relationship with food....

Dear Rochester,

Thank you for letting me call you "home" during the summer of 2000--(and the past 4 days). While you are quite full of stuffy, rich republicans, you have some pretty fantastic dining establishments. City Cafe (as my friend Lu would say) rocked my face off.

i heart you thai noodle bowl.

Rochester, my dear, thank you for allowing me see my sissy 4 times in the past 3 days--i feel spoiled.

love,
jacy
